As reported by BLACK ENTERPRISE, Katt Williams is embarking on a new venture in business and entrepreneurship, having recently acquired a former military base in Alabama that he aims to convert into a cutting-edge film studio. The comedian's ambitious move comes as he seeks to emulate the successes of prominent figures in the film industry, particularly Tyler Perry.
In an interview with GQ released on November 20th, Williams disclosed that he secured the military base earlier this year and articulated his desire to expand the landscape of entertainment. “It’s just not fair to put all that pressure on Tyler Perry,” he remarked, highlighting the limitations that come with such a singular focus on one individual. “He can only do so much.”
Williams’ publicist, Amy Sisoyev, confirmed the news of the comedian's significant acquisition. “I can’t disclose the amount or exact location just yet, but I can confirm that he has purchased a former military base in Alabama,” she explained in a statement to AL.com.
While the exact location of the property remains under wraps, speculation points to the Cold War-era barracks at Fort McClellan in Anniston, which was recently listed for sale at $1.5 million. Connie Alexander, the Luxe Group broker who represented the seller of the Fort McClellan barracks, mentioned that the property “was purchased through an LLC, but Katt Williams did visit the property frequently during the purchase phase.”
“This is a visionary endeavor, and we’re excited to see how this historic site evolves under his leadership,” Alexander added, hinting at the potential transformation of the location.
Known locally as “Starships,” the reportedly acquired site features 30 concrete buildings with an impressive three million square feet of indoor space, including ten 20-room barracks, two expansive gymnasiums, and over 90 acres of usable flat land situated on the former Fort McClellan grounds.
This announcement comes on the heels of what has been a highly successful year for Williams. The star of Friday After Next kicked off 2024 with a controversial interview on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, where his unapologetic critiques of fellow well-known comedians garnered millions of views. Following this, he released his Netflix comedy special titled Woke Foke and is preparing to launch the Katt Williams: Heaven on Earth tour in 2025.
