As reported by NFL.com, Netflix has a special holiday treat in store for football fans around the world. Starting on December 25, 2024, the streaming platform will be the exclusive global home of the NFL's two major Christmas Day games. This partnership will continue in 2025 and 2026, with Netflix streaming at least one holiday game each year as part of a three-season deal.
Netflix's collaboration with the NFL dates back to the popular series "Quarterback" in 2023. The upcoming release of "Receiver" this summer will further solidify this partnership, as it follows five of the NFL's top pass catchers, including Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Amon-Ra St. Brown, through the 2023 season.
Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, "Last year, we decided to take a big bet on live -- tapping into massive fandoms across comedy, reality TV, sports and more. There are no live annual events, sports or otherwise, that compare with the audiences NFL football attracts. We're so excited that the NFL's Christmas Day games will be only on Netflix."
Hans Schroeder, NFL's executive vice president of media distribution, expressed similar enthusiasm, saying, "We couldn't be more excited to be the first professional sports league to partner with Netflix to bring live games to fans around the world. The NFL on Christmas has become a tradition and to partner with Netflix, a service whose biggest day of the year is typically this holiday, is the perfect combination to grow this event globally for NFL fans."
The NFL's Christmas games have been a holiday tradition since 1971, and the partnership with Netflix marks a significant milestone in expanding the global reach of these festive matchups. In line with the NFL's long-standing holiday tradition, the Netflix Christmas Day games will also be available on broadcast TV in the competing team cities and on U.S. mobile devices with NFL+.
